*I hope people use their own wise judgement when hiking always plan ahead and be prepared. One should never go beyond their abilities.*

Over the years I've had a few goals my first was to Summit all the Peaks of Waterton. Here is My Waterton Summit List I completed that goal on September 26, 2016.

My next goal I'm still working on and that is to summit the 6 10,000 foot Summmits of Glacier National Park. I have one left Kintla.

My 2018 Goal that I accomplished was to summit 40 peaks in my 40th year and that I finished on September 26, 2018.

Not sure what will be my next goal, once Glacier's Summits are done?

I commonly use 3 Hashtags on my social media. The first one is #itookthepathlesstraveledby which is to reference this blog. The next two relate to my father and grandfather who were also hikers. #milesformarkellingson is to remember my
Dad, Mark Ellingson and #dustfromthetrailandhowitsettledonme is to remember my Grandfather Earl Ellingson

Sofa Mountain July 5, 2011

This day my brother-in-law and I decided to do Mt. Sofa.  This is the furthest east mountain in Waterton Park.  The access to this climb you start from the Chief Mountain highway.  You start out hiking through the 1998 forest fire burn area and then shoot up the mountain.  Once we reached the summit ridge we had one of the most beautiful vistas I have ever had hiking.  We both were in awe as we looked out over the snow caped peaks of Waterton and Glacier Park.  There were waterfalls in the valley below and we were amazed.  The hike was pretty straight forward just a bit of climbing to reach the first ridge.  It is amazing to see how Waterton goes from Mountain to plains with no real transition with foothills.

Starting to rise over the prairie

Getting a little steeper

Nice view over where we came

Looking down at where we came up

Our view to the North

At the summit ridge

This is what we got to see

Looking south west (Cleveland far left)

Looking West toward Waterton

Looking north west with Blakiston high point just to the right of center

Chief Mountain on left

Great backdrop, almost at the Summit

Snow in a valley below us

Great pondering picture with Chief on the right

On our way down the way we came

Neat little bowl between Sofa and Vimy Ridge

Little waterfall from all the runoff

Vimy Peak

Last shot of Cleveland

Getting a drink of water in the valley on the way down, the ridge above is the summit ridge we traversed to reach the true summit, we went up the hill on the right out of the picture

Very approximate path we took to summit this peak
