*I hope people use their own wise judgement when hiking always plan ahead and be prepared. One should never go beyond their abilities.*

Over the years I've had a few goals my first was to Summit all the Peaks of Waterton. Here is My Waterton Summit List I completed that goal on September 26, 2016.

My next goal I'm still working on and that is to summit the 6 10,000 foot Summmits of Glacier National Park. I have one left Kintla.

My 2018 Goal that I accomplished was to summit 40 peaks in my 40th year and that I finished on September 26, 2018.

Not sure what will be my next goal, once Glacier's Summits are done?

I commonly use 3 Hashtags on my social media. The first one is #itookthepathlesstraveledby which is to reference this blog. The next two relate to my father and grandfather who were also hikers. #milesformarkellingson is to remember my
Dad, Mark Ellingson and #dustfromthetrailandhowitsettledonme is to remember my Grandfather Earl Ellingson

Bertha Lake Waterton Lakes National Park January 6, 2019

Young Men's camp this year was done a little earlier than usual.  We usually go in February but this year we did it during the kids Christmas break.  We had stayed the Friday night at Pass Creek and got  up and cleaned up camp and headed over to the Bertha Lake trail head.  We haven't had much snow this winter and any we had was blown away or melted.  So we figured we didn't need to take snow shoes.  Well that was a great decision until after Bertha Falls because we could have really used them from the falls to the lake.  The snow was at least waist deep at times and not very packed down so it made for some grueling post hole hiking.  It was truly a work out but we got to our destination and headed down.  It was a beautiful day and the sun shone nice and bright quite a few times.  As we reached the lake we had a great sunny sunset view as the sun was just going down the ridge between Richards and Alderson.

Sunrise at Pass Creek

Before the fire this was the pretty treed area that was very shaded, you can barely see the bench up ahead where you could sit in this nice grove, not so much now.

At the look out point looking down Waterton Lake to Goat Haunt

Bertha Mountain and all the burned trees

Looking back at more burned trees

Bertha falls all covered in snow

Hallowed out burned tree

Post holing on the way up...exhausting

Beautiful views through the trees of Vimy.  The views pre-fire we all obstructed, now not so much.

Another nice shot of Vimy

The Sunset up at the lake

On the way down much easier but still post holing

Beautiful sun shot on Vimy and Boswell
