*I hope people use their own wise judgement when hiking always plan ahead and be prepared. One should never go beyond their abilities.*

Over the years I've had a few goals my first was to Summit all the Peaks of Waterton. Here is My Waterton Summit List I completed that goal on September 26, 2016.

My next goal I'm still working on and that is to summit the 6 10,000 foot Summmits of Glacier National Park. I have one left Kintla.

My 2018 Goal that I accomplished was to summit 40 peaks in my 40th year and that I finished on September 26, 2018.

Not sure what will be my next goal, once Glacier's Summits are done?

I commonly use 3 Hashtags on my social media. The first one is #itookthepathlesstraveledby which is to reference this blog. The next two relate to my father and grandfather who were also hikers. #milesformarkellingson is to remember my
Dad, Mark Ellingson and #dustfromthetrailandhowitsettledonme is to remember my Grandfather Earl Ellingson

Hawkins Horseshoe June 16, 2021 Waterton Lakes National Park

So today was my first Wednesday hike with the group I hike with in the summer on Wednesdays.  Well it was one of the longer hikes I've done in a while.  I had attempted the Hawkins Horseshoe years ago, but the day was way too hot and I ran out of water and never finished Lineham but today it was a little cooler and I had plenty of water and was able to bag the three.  It would have been the perfect day except for the crazy wind that howled all day long.  There is still a fair bit of snow in some areas but we had no trouble with any on our path today.

Lineham Falls was ranging today

Icicles on some of the rocks on the way up

Ruby Lake down below us

This has always been one of my favorite views in the park of the Lineham Lakes

Another view of Lineham Lakes (I took many of them today)

Mount Hawkins has come pretty cool layers on its East face

More Lineham Lakes

The Rowe Valley was pretty full of snow still

Also lots of snow to go down into Lineham

Looking towards Lineham, check out the cornice on the right about to fall off

On top of Lineham looking towards Cameron Lake

Loaf Mountain East June 12, 2021 Castle Wildland Provincial Park Alberta

I noticed a while back that on an app that there was another named summit that appeared in the south castle area, so I figured I better bag that summit.  So today was that day.  So you start at the gate of the 2nd finger and take the Loaf Mountain ridge all the way up to the East high point or the Loaf Mountain East Peak.  I had read online a few other peoples journeys up this and it didn't seem to hard except they said they couldn't get to the true summit.  Well they were right and we only made it within like 15 vertical feet to the true summit. The summit block was pretty exposed and not worth trying, maybe one day I'll try it from the other side, if that is even possible.

First hill we had to climb up

There were lots of flowers today on this first grassy hill

One of many dead mangled trees we saw

It looked at this point that the weather was going to turn bad, but it was gone in minutes

The true summit in view

Final approach on the summit ridge looking toward the summit block on right

The summit block, I got to the ledge just above that big flat cliff

As far as I got, the exposure was too great to even try

Our high point summit view

Looking back up a the summit as we descended a different valley

More old mangled trees, if these trees could talk!

Back on the road for the 2.5 km walk out
