Mount Crandell August 7, 2019 Waterton Lakes National Park

So another Wednesday and another summit.  My son had been left out of the past few summits so he wanted to come today and so I figured we'd work on his Waterton Summit list and Crandell seemed appropriate.  The weather was going to be hot so we figured a short approach would be nice.  Well when we got to Waterton there was significant cloud cover and we thought the forecast was wrong.  Anyways we got pretty wet from the morning dew and as we ascended in the clouds we weren't sure what kind of day we would have.  Then the inversion happened and wow was it awesome.  In about 1/2 an hour we went from complete socked in fog to crystal clear skies and the inversion was so cool, my pictures just never do justice.  Anyways it got really hot the rest of the day and I'm feeling the sunburn today.  We went up tick ridge and came down the easy descent as described in the Kane book.  We skipped the cockscomb as some of us today were probably not ready for that.  Anyways we had a great beautiful hot day and bagged another summit.

Our morning view sure changed in a hurry

Tick ridge sure burned up

Clouds starting to clear up

The inversion

More inversion

Can see the lake in the distance now

Clearing more around Vimy

I was hoping to get a sweet shot of the inversion around the Prince of Wales Hotel but it never happened

Our view once the fog cleared up to the summit ridge

After the cockscomb we had to regain the summit ridge

Looking down on Waterton Lakes

Upon descent we saw the results of the fire

Coming down with a great view of the Lakes

Another great view...Crandell has some amazing views!
