Galwey Summer 2000

This was day two of hiking with some friends while down in Southern Alberta.  We had hiked Crandell Mountian the day before.  So we started our hike and about a half hour into the hike we looked back and saw another group of hikes coming up behind us.  Well it was one of my room mates in Edmonton with his father and a few others.  The funny thing about this mountain is that it was called "break-up" mountain by this room mates brother.  The reason being was that every time they had hiked this mountain with a girl friend or potential girl friend the relationship inevitably went "south" after the hike.  So my room mate was dating a girl at the time and she was hiking up the mountain with him that day.  So when I saw it was Brian hiking that day I yelled down to him, "Brian, do you know what mountain you are climbing!"  I heard a little chuckle and a "yes!"  Anyways as fate would attest, the mountain lived true to its name as they did eventually part ways after the hike.  I think I may not take my wife up this peak!  Anyways this was a great hike. Good scrambling.  The weather was a little nasty and it did rain a little on us but it was still a good day.  The view from the top wasn't great as it was pretty overcast.  But once we started down the weather cleared up and the rest of the day was quite pleasant.  As a side note, this was the last hike I did with that room mate Brian.  He and his brother Gerry died while hiking Mt. Elbrus in Russia a few years later.  I think of them both from time to time and it was a great pleasure to have known them both.
