I Took The Path Less Traveled By: February 2018

We had done this camp a couple years ago, but with much less snow that we currently have. We also decided to try two nights as opposed to just one. We needed a snowmobile to carry a bunch of the food and gear up. Unfortunately it broke down, but luckily it made it almost all the way there with all of our needed food. We just had to improvise how we cooked stuff for the next couple days. We started hiking to the Pole Haven Ski Cabin Thursday night and the boys carried all their gear. The snow wasn't too deep, only had to post hole a little bit, but we didn't get to the cabin till about 8:30 or 9pm. Suffice to say the boys were tired and ready for bed! The stove in the cabin kept us warm both nights and we didn't every get really cold even though the cabin isn't the most insulated of structures. Day 2 was spent sledding and getting our broken snowmobile back. My father in law came and helped us do that. Then that night we had another father come, with a snowmobile and that helped us get out the gear the next day. Friday afternoon I was the only one that wanted to climb to the top of Pole Haven and over look the prairie. It was a beautiful view and a great view of Old Chief Mountain was seen on the way up. Then Saturday we hiked all our of stuff out. The hike in from the corals at the community pasture is about 5 km each way to the Pole Haven Ski Cabin. This structure was build in 1939 and is a neat little place to stay. We were truly secluded back in there and the boys had a great time.
